Tom Announced in his blog yesterday that a new site for Propeller is in the works. The Netscape team has always been good about listening to member feedback and I assume will continue to do so with Propeller.
So, I want to start a list of ideas that you might like to see on Propeller. Is there something you really want to see on Propeller that is absent from your experience? Ever said “God I wish I could…”? Well now is your chance!
Please post your ideas in the comments of this post. Remember, Propeller is a social news network, so requests for applications like the “Happy Hour” application on Facebook might be off topic. But really, who doesn’t want to be given a free virtual drink? It is almost as good as a virtual lunch.
Anyway, just post your ideas and perhaps the Propeller team will add them. …..and GO!

I would like to see a data API. The newsfeeds on the site are cool, but I would like to be able to custom query for things and maybe be able to fetch them in JSON or via SOAP. That would be rad.

I would like to see a stumbleupon like feature that would take me to stories I may be interested in based on my past voting history.

Maybe this is “off topic” but the channels seriously need some monitoring. I have personally marked dozens of articles that were clearly spam on “Religion” in the past three weeks. Someone needs to monitor the submissions so these don’t make it to the RSS feed.

I second Blaine’s data API suggestion. I second it with a vengeance.
I would like some of the features of the Netscape Navigator browser to be made into Firefox extensions. (eg. the tracker sidebar, the built in voting)
I also want a pony.

I would like to see the sitemail redesigned or scrapped. It is such a great feature but so abused. At the very least have it that only your friends can send you site mail, and have a way to delete multiple site mail at a time. I would also like to see the profile pages expanded with more features and options, and like Derek I would also like a pony.

You guys want to keep putting this stuff in here or do you want to get it out on the thread where more people are likely to see it?
As for me, I’d like to see the home page have four distinct frames with fifteen stories in each frame. A frame would have the top fifteen stories from the main channel (Top Stories) which would not be customizable and then three other frames (channels) with channels that I pick.
For instance, I look mostly at Politics, Religion and Science. Other than that my friends have to let me know, I see something interesting on the Tracker (we’ve gotta do something to make that better, maybe across the top of the screen?), or I see something in Top Stories. So, I’d just like to be able to look at my top four channels at once. Yeah, it’ll be smaller, but so what?
Another thing that would simply rock, would be to be able to look at your friends top four categories as well, that way I wouldn’t be sending Pagey a link to a story I posted about corn mold, if he isn’t interested in that. Well, I wouldn’t. Some people (obviously) don’t care.
Just a couple of ideas.

I would BEG you to allow messaging on new posts to be sent to more than five people at a time.
I’m begging you.
Begging.

I would like to see the scouts proactive when handling the stories that voted by a user with multiple fake accounts. Thanks!

I’d like to see a “who befriended so-and-so” link on the profile page so it’s possible to see who made somebody their friend. This would help with avoiding befriending spammers who just befriend everybody and hope others befriend them.

Well I second Richard Kline’s idea — a site that learns what I like to read based on my voting history.

1. get rid of the constant spamming of content. fake blogs with ripped off unattributed content posted on netscape.
2. get rid of the multiple “registered” users all held by single users or entities. it’s become a farce, the gaming of votes, big #s of user ids for same people. they’re obvious. it’s part of reason why so many legit active users have disappeared in last few months.
3. instead of or in addition to scouts paid to post content, hire scouts to remove bogus users, posts full of spam and/or unorginal content. the site’s got no legitimacy anymore, dominated by spammers and users with multiple ids
4. instead of having each piece that hits the home page remain on the home page for 24 hours, adopt a digg-like rotating home page. now, once something hits home page, it’s almost impossible to supplant it — because of the home page exposure. it causes the page to seem static and, espcially because of all the spammed blogs that get there, sometimes choked with nonsense. if pieces cycle out, at least that will allow some others to reach there. it’ll also probably cut down on spam because the benefit of getting to the home page will be slightly reduced. and, of course, having the page change regularly will make it more dynamic, interesting and worth returning to regularly.

It will be great if propeller could provide the users wide range of Avatar they can use also some cool images that they can use with their post or user ability to upload images with their posts that will be really handy

I would like to see a Digg like option of “Blog it”.. So that news can be shared on different blogs.. It must be difficult because API of various blogging services are required

It would be great if you could return to the same place you were before clicking on the view story. Each time you return you have to start at the top of the page and scroll down to where you were. Digg has this feature, so I know it can be done.
Thanks for listening!

I wouldn’t mind being able to expand on the “local” thing. In the same way I would like to check the weather at the place I am traveling to, I might want to check the news.
A somewhat related feature would be to add multiple locations and be able to set the radius of inclusion? This is probably overkill.

I don’t know if this has been suggested. Allow me to pick the type of “friends” I want. Maybe I only want to be friends with people who comment on the same stories I do, or click through on the same channels I do. I don’t think that my voting and viewing vs someone else’s is a good way of determining whether or not I should be friends with someone. Especially when you have the same group of friends voting on the same stories over and over.

Hmmm… my wish? How about someone monitoring the massive porn floods that go on daily but all the anchors and scouts seem to ignore, regardless of endless reporting, yet they seem to ban people on what appears to be a selective basis of whether they like them or not? Just an idea, of course–

I would like we would get more comments on our posts than the clicks we make

I would like to see scouts be more accountable so they stop abusing fellow contributors.
